Safety Glass

Safety Glass – Tempered, Laminated, and Wire Glass

Federal, state and local codes require safety glazing material where the glazing might reasonably be exposed to human impact. This includes walk through doors, tub and shower enclosures, sidelites, and certain windows. Applicable building codes should be checked for specific information and requirements.

Tempered Glass

Tempered

This glass is heated to a temperature near its softening point then cooled rapidly with air. This process makes fully tempered glass four times stronger than ordinary annealed glass and significantly increases its resistance to thermal and impact stress. A unique safety characteristic of tempered glass is that when it breaks, it fractures into small relatively harmless fragments and greatly reduces the likelihood of injury because there are no jagged edges or shards.

Possible uses of tempered glass include:

  • Patio doors
  • Patio tabletops
  • Fireplaces
  • Tub and shower enclosures
  • Walk-thru door glass or storm doors
  • Windows (above or near a door)
  • Greenhouse windows
  • Office partitions
  • Railing glass
  • Showcases

Laminated Glass

Laminated

Bell’s laminated glass comes in clear, bronze or grey colors with any of our edge work and patterns; however 1/4″ and 3/8″ laminated products can only have a bevel up to 1″.

Possible uses of laminated glass include:

  • Sound insulation
  • Walk-thru door glass or storm doors
  • Windows (above or near a door)
  • Office partitions
  • Railing glass
